Nissan Micra recalled globally, Indian version unaffected

The Oragadam plant of the company in Chennai is the major place from where the exports of the Micra are carried out especially as far as the Nissan Micra hatchback is concerned.  However the company, which is a leading brand from Japan, has now recalled around 9600 Micra models manufactured in India because of a possible mechanical error. According to the company, the car could experience a leakage of petrol as the fuel pressure sensor may not be tightly fixed in many of the models.

Through the recalling, the petrol leakage will be repaired by tightening of the pressure sensors. The recalling however is confined to only the Micras sold globally which have a direct petrol injection and will have no effect on the Nissan Micra sold in the Indian car market. Hence the Indian owners of the Nissan Micra need not worry much. Unlike the Indian version of the Nissan Micra, the exported model is supercharged and provides better power and torque. Gradually the demand and sale of the Nissan Micra has started increasing in the Indian car market, the most desired model being the diesel variant which has a K9K turbocharged engine with 1.5 ltr capacity and very high fuel efficiency.

This diesel engine also has high responsiveness with no turbo lag and hence makes it perfect for driving in cities with heavy traffic conditions. The absence of turbo lag signifies that the gears won’t have to be worked with regularly to remain in the turbo zone. This in turn enables very simple driving. Infact this simpler driving quality has been the major point of promotion from the company through their tag line "Drive Simpler, Live Better". However one of the major demerits of the Nissan Micra diesel hatchback car is that ABS is not featured in any of the version of the car, not even in the top most version which is a very surprising miss from Nissan.

Toyota Etios becomes a part of luxury taxi segment

The car maker from Japan, Toyota had introduced its sedan Etios last year. Toyota Etiosis now establishing its dominance in the luxury cab sector in major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. As stated by the assistant MD of the company, Mr Sandeep Singh, this step is in synchronization with the company's premium brand planning and this change will be a key factor in enabling the Toyota Etios strengthening its hold in the market. Thus promoting the Etios as a luxury taxi is an important aspect of the company's plan.

According to the reports, the Toyota Etios sedan is a new entrant in the new 'TAB' fleet which was introduced in the beginning of this month in Mumbai by the SMS Infrastructure which is a company from Nagpur. Currently the luxury taxi market in Mumbai is dominated by the Meru brand's cabs and Etios has been introduced as a competitor. Close to more than 600 Toyota Etios, red and white in color, have already been dispatched by the company and around 400 more are ready to be delivered. Taking cue from the rising demand for luxury taxies the demand for the Etios is expected to increase further. Similarly in Delhi as well the Etios is growing in popularity and could match a demand equivalent to that in Mumbai in the near future. On the other hand, demand in Ahmedabad and Bangalore is also rising but at comparatively smaller rates. 

In cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad, where the airports are very far from the city, the demand for such a luxury taxi is bound to increase in times to come. Mahindra & Mahindra was one such company which pounced on this opportunity with the launch of its Logan, which is now known as Verito. As known through reports, the taxies in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad run on CNG whereas in other metros diesel is used. However efforts are being made to make CNG available across all major cities as it is cheaper and causes less pollution. This can be accomplished with the help of companies like RIL and GAIL. In the past few years, the entire traveling scenario has been changed by the high end cabs and they have saved people from the troublesome traveling of crowded buses and other such inconvenient modes. Meru has been one of the biggest players in this field. Other prominent companies in this segment are Easy, Mega and SMS Infrastructure.

Ranbir Kapoor-Nissan Micra’s campaign on FB

Ranbir Kapoor has been endorsing the Nissan brand for quite a few years now. Since the introduction of the Nissan Micra in the Indian car market, Ranbir Kapoor had been featuring in the advertisements shown on televisions all over the country. The stylish car in the hatchback segment is promoted via the catchy 'Drive better, Live simpler' tagline. To move ahead  its relationship with Bollywood the company has come up with another innovative idea wherein it provided aspiring movie anticipators an opportunity to showcase their dancing talent in an upcoming movie through videos made by themselves which were to be posted on facebook.

This innovative idea of promotion is very new and the first of its kind. The whole idea became very popular and a large number of aspirants (somewhere close to 2500) posted their videos for a mere 20 vacancies. The company gave some relaxation by offering some people with side roles apart from the 20 who were chosen as the first choice. The movie which is expected to hit the screens by the beginning of March, has Ranbeer Kapoor as the main actor. It is directed by Ahmed Khan who was earlier a choreographer.

Ford opens 45 sales and service outlets in a single day.....Ford Go further

Ford India today inaugurated 45 new sales and service outlets in 35 locations across the country, an unprecedented achievement which further extends Ford's footprint of world-class products and services in one of the world's fastest growing auto markets. Michael Boneham, president & managing director, Ford India inaugurated a brand new 3S and Service facility at MPL Ford in Chennai, Tamil Nadu with S. Ravindranathan, Dealer Principal, MPL Ford. With the new openings, Ford India has strengthened its pan-India network to 230 sales and service outlets in over 123 cities. “Ford has started 2012 with a new promise and is committed to going further to enrich the lives of customers across India.

Given India’s importance to the Asia Pacific and Africa region, Ford recently broke ground in Sanand, Gujarat as part of an investment of approximately USD 1 billion to build new vehicle manufacturing and engine plants. Earlier, Ford announced an investment of USD 72 million to expand its already operating powertrain facility in Chennai. Skoda India, today launched its latest Skoda Rapid Ad Campaign titled ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding’. Fiat to pull up its socks

The Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL) announced at a recent event in Hyderabad that post its partnership with Maruti Suzuki to which Fiat deliver engines; they will ensure that they aim at completely utilizing the resources and the capacity at the manufacturing plant at Ranjangaon, a small town close to the city of Pune in Maharashtra. As decided by the MoU signed between the two companies FIAL would be providing approximately 1,00,000 Multijet 75hp SDE 1.3lt engines per year to Maruti Suzuki for the next 3 years starting this year.

The assembly line that is currently making an average utilization of around 70 percent is targeting a complete 100 percent utilization of the available resources as stated by Mr Piyush Lall who is the Assistant GM of Fiat Brands-Tata Motors. Lall was speaking at the introduction of the new versions of the Linea and the Punto. The plant currently produces Fiat's Multijet diesel supported engines with a 1.3 lt capacity and FIRE gasoline engines with a capacity of 1.2 lt and 1.4 litres. The plant has available resources for the manufacturing of around 1 lakhcars and about 3.5 lakh engines apart from approximately 3 lakh spare parts and other accessories. Few Tata passenger car models are also produced at this assembly line.

 

Mr Lall further elaborated that after the recently concluded mutual decision with Maruti Suzuki the assembly line capability is bound to increase and even Tata motors is planning to make more cars at this plant. The 1.3lt Multijet engine will be used in Suzuki vehicles manufactured in the country for the local car segment. FIAL also plans to increase its sale to 20000 units from last year's sale of18,000 units. The price of the two cars may turn out to be a factor in deciding the sales. Punto is priced in between 4.89 lakhs to 6.92 lakhs range whereas the Linea has a cost somewhere between 6.92 lakhs to 9.32 lakhs.

2012 Elantra Fluidic to launch in second half of 2012

The much awaited Hyundai Elantra Fluidic is expected to make its first appearance in Indian car market this year itself. The new Elantra will sizzle on Indian roads in second half of 2012. But with the new Hyundai Elantra Fluidic, which was showcased at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo in New Delhi, the car received an awe-inspiring response, which means more sales could be expected as soon as the company launches this premium sedan in the country. The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Fluidic is a complete show stealer and the credit goes to the exquisite fluidic design thinking that actually make it stand out amongst other sedans being offered in the country. Under the hood, Hyundai Elantra Fluidic will be offered in both diesel and petrol options.

Tata Aria Automatic in the making

Tata Aria is putting its best foot forward to achieve its own bearing after the storming entry of the wildcatMahindra XUV 500. The high cost of Aria earlier posed to be the major hurdle but was soon tackled with the low price model fixed at Rs 9.99 lakh. Concentrating on the other side, it is clear that Moving further,Tata Aria AT aims at filling in the empty space created by the absence of an Automatic diesel car in the market. This may turn out to be a good step by Tata as the small section of people that would be satisfied by the Tata Aria AT concept may eventually turn out to be potential customers. The modifications made to the Aria may somewhat portray it in the category of luxurious cars but the DICOR motor with a capacity of 2.2 litres will haul an SUV like power of 156 PS and a higher 400Nm of torque.

 

The design of the Aria is featured with an all new roof top blended with a swept back design. The spoiler at the back end signals towards the dynamic styling of the Aria. Further modifications in the exterior include smoked bezel headlights and bright lens tail lights. The internal design has been modified by the change in color to Sandstone Beige and Rosewood Red and is accompanied by a wooden Dashboard in the middle. The stylish premium quality leather seats with excellent stitching designs further add to the luxury and comfort of the car. To add to all this, features like air vents, designs on bin coverings, scuffed plates and interior doors coated with golden and silver linings further enhance the royal look of the car.

 

The powerful and stylish steering with high ergonomics gives an excellent control of the car to the driver. The car also has an inbuilt music system with ten speakers and amplifiers which provide a fabulous high definition audio system to the customer. The lone change in the mechanical portion is the Auto box matted to a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox. It allows a triptonic selection of gears in three modes-sport, economy and cruise. The car can also be driven at reasonably lower speeds because of a suitably designed torque modifier. It now needs to be seen whether the Aria lives up to its expectations of increasing the demand for cars in the Asian market.

Volkswagen Passat, Jetta petrol to debut in March and April 2012

Volkswagen seems to be making an effort to fill in for lack of petrol variants for its premium car line-up fraught will diesel powered cars. It’s high time that Volkswagen brings the VW Passat petrol and theVolkswagen Jetta petrol variants to India in March and April respectively to compete with the luxuriousHonda Accord and the Toyota Camry sedans in their respective berths, both of which are already offered in the petrol trims.

Volkswagen is betting high on the  1.8 L petrol engine churning out the 160 Bhp and 250 Nm peak power and torque, respectively borrowed from its Czech subsidiary Skoda’s flagship cars Skoda Laura and Skoda Superb, though the two Skoda cars will be seeing a neck-to-neck competition with the new petrol variants also entering into the Indian car market scenario.  Despite the powerful 1.8 L petrol engine, Volkswagen promises of a modish mileage of around 10 kmpl in the city and bettered mileage on the highways to make a smashing debut for the petrol car lovers especially when the diesel car demand is likely to go down with the upcoming budget session in March when the Government is considering excessive tax on diesel powered cars.

 

The NVH levels in the petrol variants are also expected to be better in comparison with their diesel counterparts. The Volkswagen Passatdiesel priced at Rs 24.11 lakh for the base diesel variant is offered presently in two variants, the 2.0 L TDI Comfortline and 2.0 L TDI Highline offering a mileage of 12.5 kmpl making the Volkswagen Passat petrol variant mileage no less in comparison.
